Child and Adolescent Therapy

Understanding child and teen mental health symptoms is complex. Symptoms vary from child to child, ranging from social withdrawal to extreme aggressiveness. When left untreated, these problems can lead to serious issues at school, family conflicts, violence, drug abuse or self-harm.

Common warning signs include:

  • Refusing to attend or declining performance in school
  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Negative feelings about themselves
  • Uncontrollable anger or outbursts
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Extreme irritability

Zumbro Valley Health Center has caring and compassionate therapists who have specialized training to work with children and their families. A counselor will work with you and your child or adolescent to assess their strengths, identify and develop goals, provide testing and, if necessary, refer to psychiatry for medication management.

Staff provide comprehensive, intensive mental health services for children and their families, including:

  • Assessment
  • Trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy
  • Evaluation
  • Individual and family therapy
