A THERAPY GROUP FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

PURPOSE

The long-lasting stress situation of the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19 poses challenges to mental health. Addressing the needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities during this time is important. The change in activities and routines, limitations in social activities, and environmental stresses are risk situations for persons to struggle with anxiety, depression, loneliness, boredom, frustration/anger, fear, confusion, and distrust. Zumbro Valley Health Center is offering a new virtual context to offer support for coping, facilitating management tools, fostering emotional wellness, and offering social connections during this difficult time.

  • Gratefulness to foster resiliency
  • Wellness activities, fostering hopefulness
  • Meaningful activities
  • Yoga/exercise
  • Art-exploring themes and making art
  • Calming activities/relaxation

FORMAT

  • Group sessions by Zoom
  • Offered two times a week
  • Tuesdays, 10-am, and/or Wednesday 3-4pm, Starting 12/8/20
  • Sessions billed to insurance

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Age 18 or older
  • Access to Zoom
  • Communication and attention skills adequate for group discussion with mild/moderate assistance
  • Behavior control and attention skills adequate for group interaction through zoom
  • Willingness to participate
  • Identified mental health diagnosis and impairment in area of functioning
