About
Marshall is a dedicated and compassionate psychotherapist with extensive experience helping people navigate problems in living. He believes that psychotherapy works best when those seeking treatment have a say in as many aspects of the therapeutic work as possible, from assessment to choosing which interventions or methods will help with their own unique distress. Utilizing a pluralistic framework, Marshall aims to match the therapy to the person, and not the other way around. This means that there is room for collaboration, negotiation, and shared decision making when working with Marshall, and that care will be taken to incorporate your individual preferences in the process of therapy.
The pluralistic approach to therapy suggests that different people need different things at different times throughout the course of therapeutic work and in their lives, and that there is more than one “right” way to practice therapy. Ultimately, this approach is guided by an ethic of respect that views clients as heroic for seeking out ways of dealing with their problems and trusting that therapy can help.
When working with Marshall, expect to pick from a therapy menu that includes elements of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered and humanistic/existential approaches, emotion-focused approaches, mindfulness, psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy/parts work, and relational approaches to therapy. Marshall has comprehensive training in ACT, as well as the art of integrative psychotherapy practice. He is Level 1-trained in IFS, has trained in emotionally focused individual therapy (EFIT) and other humanistic approaches, and he has spent countless hours combing through psychotherapy research and theory to become competent in employing a wide variety of therapy interventions.
Outside of the therapy room, if you catch him not reading about some obscure element of therapy practice, you can expect to find Marshall playing guitar or messing around with a synthesizer, engrossed in a video game, or cheering for/disowning (depending on the day) the Twins and the Vikings.
