Rachel Beukema, NP

Why did you choose to become a mental health professional?
I chose to practice Psychiatry over other fields of medicine as it focuses not only on the biological/physical/medical aspect of a person, but also their spirituality, emotional/mental/psychological health, and social context of both past and present.

What do you love most about your job?
I love being able to feel that the medications I prescribe are making a difference in people’s quality of life by helping them with symptoms they would not be able to manage otherwise.

Why should clients choose Zumbro Valley Health Center for mental health services?
ZVHC is focused on the whole person and integrates many different aspects of care all under one organization, including Individual and Group Therapy, psychological testing, medication management for Psychiatry and Primary Care, laboratory services, Case Management, ARMHS workers, Dental Care, Intensive Residential Treatment, and other wrap-around services including help for the homeless population.

How does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I am patient and understanding. I truly love to see other people succeed. I usually try to take a collaborative approach to help people by giving them some choices in their treatment.
