Below is one of our clients\u2019 success stories which demonstrate how our psychiatry and therapy services helped her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ana* is a woman in her 50s trying to\nbalance her mental illness, along with work and raising a family. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zvhc.org\/programs-services\/medicalandwellness\/\" class=\"broken_link\">psychiatry and therapy services<\/a> helped her navigate through a very\ndifficult time. Continue reading to learn more about Ana\u2019s story. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor most of\nmy life, I have felt alone,\u201d says Ana. \u201cThat\u2019s how depression works, even when\nsurrounded by people, I have tended to isolate myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For years,\nAna worked to balance her mental\nillness with the demands of raising a family and working a full-time job\nin construction. This took a serious toll on her overall health, and she\nsuffered a heart attack in her early 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe anxiety over my\nhospitalization triggered my depression\nand I went into a downward spiral,\u201d she says. \u201cFollowing my stay, I was\nappointed a social worker to help with my overall care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After an\ninitial meeting with her social\nworker, Ana was referred to both psychiatry and therapy to help manage her depression. Her case manager also helped\nAna obtain social security benefits, which reduced a lot of the stress she was\nfeeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cI feel much better than when I started a few years ago,\u201d she says. \u201cTherapy has taught me how to manage my mental illness. I now have more options and people who will help me, and I no longer feel trapped by my circumstances.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ana has built\na strong social network and sees friends on a regular basis. Now she exercises\nregularly, and she recently started working at a part-time job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cMy hope, in the end, is that more people visit Zumbro Valley Health Center to get the same care that I did,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s wasn\u2019t just about the treatment for my depression, but also the support that everyone provided.
