As the school year comes a close, excitement builds for the student’s summer break. Though we often associate this school break with sunny days, big smiles, and fun memories, it is not always the case. For students struggling with mental health, the change in their normal structure and school routine that comes with summer break can be a very challenging transition. For this reason, we offer a wide variety of youth mental health services over the summer to help your child continue along their wellness journey. From one-on-one sessions with their school-linked mental health therapist to attending one of our various youth support groups, we are here to support your child so they can make the most of their summer break.

Utilize Our Summer School-Linked Mental Health Services

As partners with several area school districts, we can provide our School-Linked Mental Health Services directly in the schools. This means our trained metal health therapists are available to provide quality and convenient mental health therapy to students who need it. From individual or family sessions to group therapy options, our school-linked therapists are there to help those with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD achieve their goals.

However, these mental health services do not end when the school year does. Our school-linked therapists are available to provide professional support and guidance all summer long. This way, these students don’t have to wait months to focus on their mental wellness. While some of our therapists are able to continue to provide their services from their office in the schools, others may need to meet at one of our Zumbro Valley Health Center locations or schedule a telehealth appointment.

If you want to know where your child’s therapist will be available to provide services over the summer, please reach out to them directly or contact us at 507.289.2089. To get started with our School-Linked Mental Health Services, contact your school counselor or principal and request the service or give us a call today.

Join a Youth Support Group

At ZVHC, we offer a variety of Psychotherapy Youth Groups and Youth Support Groups where your child can get the professional guidance they need from our experts while experiencing the support of peers who are going through similar things. Some of the groups being offered over the summer include:

  • Coping & Social Skills (grades 3-5): This group provides children the opportunity to socialize with their peers while learning to identify emotions, the importance of self-care, and how to regulate their emotions.
  • Creativity Camp (ages 10-15): Using the creative process, this group will utilize art as a modality to regulate their emotions, boost their mood, and decrease stress.
  • Summer Wellness Warriors (ages 11-14): Focusing on increasing positive mental health and wellbeing, this group will help to build self-esteem, distress tolerance, self-care, socializing, and resilience while participating in fun activities such as rock climbing, making pottery, hiking, and more.
  • Music and Mindfulness (ages 11-15): By using music and dance, participants of this group will learn how to increase their mental wellness by helping to boost their mood and decrease stress.
  • Grounding in Nature (ages 13-17): Designed to use DBT skills, this nature-based group will meet at Quarry Hill Nature Center. There they will go for nature walks, explore the benefits of being immersed in nature, moving, and engage their five senses as primary coping mechanisms.

  • Adolescent Co-Occurring (ages 13-18): In this safe space, participants can focus on the dangerous connection drugs and alcohol have on mental health by building skills to boost self-esteem, utilize protective factors, identify the reasons behind their using, and more.
